Alamance County Government is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying relevant accessibility standards to meet the needs of our community.

1. Our Commitment

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, which are recognized as the international standard for web accessibility. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

2. Accessibility Features

Our websites include, but are not limited to, the following accessibility features:

  • Text alternatives for non-text content (images, icons, and graphics).

  • Keyboard navigation support.

  • Adjustable text size and responsive layouts.

  • Sufficient color contrast between text and background.

  • Forms designed with accessible labels and instructions.

  • Compatibility with modern screen readers and assistive technologies.

3. Ongoing Efforts

We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing process. Our team regularly reviews content, updates design practices, and tests new pages and features to maintain compliance. Staff members and contractors are trained to create accessible content, and accessibility is integrated into our design and development process.

4. Limitations & Alternatives

While we strive to ensure all content is accessible, some older documents or third-party content may not fully meet accessibility standards. If you encounter an issue, please contact us so we can provide an alternative format or accommodation.

5. Feedback

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our websites. If you experience any barriers or need assistance accessing content, please let us know:

Email: [email protected]

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days.

6. Enforcement

If you believe your accessibility rights have not been upheld, you may also file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division or your state’s accessibility oversight agency.
