Things to Know:

  1. Young adults can remain on their parents’ health insurance plan up to age 26.
  2. To be eligible to enroll in Marketplace health coverage, you must live in the United States, be a U.S. citizen or national (or be lawfully present), and not be incarcerated.
  3. To get coverage, you will need to fill out an application on HealthCare.gov
  4. Remember:
    1. You can compare plans and costs through this website and you can also see if you qualify for cost assistance or Medicaid

    3. With financial assistance, the average premium per individual was $80 per month.
  5. All insurance plans on the Marketplace must cover basic services including:
    • Doctor visits (including check-ups)
    • Prescription drugs (If available, generic medication will cost you less than name-brand)
    • Emergency room visits and hospital stays
    • Pregnancy and newborn care
    • Contraceptives for all women (including birth control pills, IUDs, and emergency contraceptives)
  6. All Marketplace plans cover mental health and substance abuse services as essential health benefits.
    • Behavioral health treatment, such as psychotherapy and counseling
    • Mental and behavioral health inpatient services
    • Substance use disorder (commonly known as substance abuse) treatment
